Individualized Online Tutoring FAQ's

  1. Why do we need to purchase a Math Checkup subscription to use your tutoring services?  (e.g., my teacher has already provided me with worksheets and problems, or I have my own materials, or I know a lot of the basic math material already, etc.)?
By the time students come to us, they have already spent time and money on various tutoring/self-help methods without success.  In our experience, these repeated difficulties occur because the students are weak in some foundation math skills that have not yet been identified.  Our philosophy is to FIRST identify and strengthen those weaknesses.  Since Math Checkup is specifically designed for this purpose, using this resource is the first step in our tutoring process when working with students and the materials provided by their teachers.  The cost of the Math Checkup resource is not included in our tutoring fees (just as workbooks are not included in the fees of a tutor); therefore students need to purchase this resource if they wish to use our tutoring services.  It should be noted that students can use the Math Checkup resource for self study any time their subscription is active and they are not restricted to using it only with us.

  2. How often should the student have tutoring?
We recommend sessions twice a week.  However you can schedule the sessions as often as you wish.  You schedule appointments via our online scheduling calendar.

  3. When do you tutor?
We tutor Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 10:00 pm EST (8:00 am - 9:00 pm CST, 7:00 am - 8:00 pm CST, and 6:00 am to 7:00 pm PST).  Hours are subject to change and available times are reflected in our scheduling calendar.

  4. How does online tutoring work?
You need access to a computer and high-speed internet.  We also recommend you get a headset (with combination headphones and microphone) to avoid feedback.  We will use Skype or Google Hangouts to hear each other, and an online whiteboard where we can both write (and see each others work) using a mouse or a tablet.

  5. Do you tutor in person.
No.  We only tutor online.  Tutoring online is just as effective and is more convenient for everyone.

  6. What are your rates?
We charge $20.00 per 25 minute session.  The initial session is always 50 minutes and costs $40.00.

  7. How do payments work?
Students pay for tutoring sessions at the time they book them on our Tutoring Scheduling Calendar using PayPal.  You can pay using credit card; you are not required to create a PayPal account to make payment.  Your credit card statement will show the payment was made to our parent company, Altus Consulting LLC.

  8. What is your cancellation policy?
Students can change or cancel an appointment at least 48 hours in advance.  All changes or cancellations must be done by the student by logging into the online calendar; changes/cancellations via any other method (email, etc.) are not permitted.  No changes or cancellations are allowed less than 48 hours in advance.  There is no refund for cancellations (or "no shows") less then 48 hours before appointment.
